In 2018, Spectrum Health faced such a challenge with an unwieldy array of 27 individual systems that were becoming increasingly inefficient. This fragmentation led to confusion not only among staff but also put patients at risk due to delays in essential services.
Building an Integrated Solution
To remedy this, Spectrum Health executed a transformative plan to consolidate these disparate systems. They opted for a unified enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform, Workday, and enhanced it with ServiceNow’s IT and HR Service Delivery systems. This consolidation was essential for creating an environment where healthcare professionals could dedicate more time to patient interactions rather than navigating through cumbersome, outdated software.
Phased Implementation and Rapid Adoption
Burton Smith, Director of Enterprise Service Delivery at Spectrum Health, emphasized the importance of focusing on transformation rather than mere migration. By creating a user-friendly experience that complied with the Common Services Data Model, they ensured that even amidst the pandemic challenges, they could implement the first phase of the program on time and within budget.
Self-Service Solutions and Enhanced Patient Care
By summer 2021, an impressive 97% of Spectrum Health personnel accessed IT and HR services through the new platform, indicative of the system’s ease of use. With 10,000 knowledge articles at their fingertips and community clinics having instant insights into equipment delivery, patient care has significantly improved.
